
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 24) — Quezon City now has a total of 2,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases, the local government said Saturday.
Of this number, 841 are active cases.
Meanwhile, three new deaths were recorded in the city, bringing the death toll to 169.
A total of 624 individuals have already recovered from the disease.
The city government said Saturday that it has partnered with the private sector to ramp up its rapid testing process to identify COVID-19 cases in its barangays.
Quezon City received 3,800 rapid antibody-based diagnostic test kits from Project Ark, a private sector initiative, which will be used to screen and identify residents from selected barangays.
A 14-day special concern lockdown has been in place in some areas of the city since May 13 due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases.
Some of these areas were from barangays Bahay Toro, Culiat, Sauyo, Batasan Hills and Tatalon.
Quezon City has the biggest population among the cities in Metro Manila, and currently has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the region, according to the Department of Health.
The Philippines has recorded 13,777 COVID-19 cases to date, with 3,177 recoveries and 863 deaths.
