Magnitude 6.1 quake hits Davao Occidental

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 6) — A magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit off the coast of Davao Occidental Thursday evening.

The initial report from Phivolcs said the epicenter was 85 kilometers south of Jose Abad Santos, adding it was tectonic in origin or the Earth’s crust moved.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) first measured the earthquake at 6.4 magnitude.

The following intensities were reported in these areas:

The earthquake was located 118 km southeast of Jose Abad Santos town.

Intensity IV – Glan, Sarangani

Intensity III – Alabel, Sarangani; General Santos City; Davao City
