Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 27) – The House of Representatives will conduct a committee hearing on the improvement of telecommunications services in the country.
The House Committees on Public Accounts, and Good Government and Public Accountability will preside over the hearing, according to Rep. Mike Defensor, chairperson of the public accounts committee, in an online message to CNN Philippines on Tuesday.
“So by next week, we will call for a committee hearing,” he said. “Magkakaroon po tayo ng briefing on the improvement of telco signal in our country, which includes the NTC (National Telecommunications Commission), DICT (Department of Information and Communications Technology), at yung mga private proponents po ng telcos.”

Defensor said this is in response to the call of President Rodrigo Duterte during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) that telecommunications companies must improve their services by December.
In his fourth SONA last July, Duterte warned Smart and Globe to improve their services in the next five months or the country will do away with them.
In September, Duterte renewed his call to the telecommunications companies as students are on blended learning for the current school year.
