At around 5 p.m. on Sunday, PAGASA issued an orange rainfall warning over Zambales, indicating that “flooding is threatening” the province’s communities in low-lying areas and near river channels. It added that flooding is possible in Metro Manila, Bulacan, and Bataan which are experiencing moderate to heavy rains.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 11)— Rainy weather may be expected in parts of the country in the coming days as two low pressure areas are both likely to develop into tropical depression, according to the state weather bureau.

In its advisory on Sunday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said it is monitoring two LPAs— one estimated 60 kilometers west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur and the other 760 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

Due to continuous rainfall, the bureau warned that water levels at the La Mesa Dam and Ipo Dam are expected to rise.

The first may become a tropical depression within the next 48 hours, while the second one is also likely to develop within next 48 to 72 hours, PAGASA said.

The first LPA— together with the effects of the enhanced southwest monsoon or Habagat— is set to bring moderate to heavy rains in parts of Luzon, including Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Sur, Isabela, Pangasinan, Aurora, northern Palawan (including Kalayaan and Calamian Islands), and Occidental Mindoro.

Meanwhile, light to moderate with at times heavy rains will also be experienced over the Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and the rest of Luzon, the weather agency noted.

PAGASA’s forecast also shows that the second LPA will move generally northwestward towards the Eastern Visayas and Bicol Region area.

Waters from the La Mesa Dam are likely to affect the low-lying areas along the Tullahan River, including areas in Quezon City, Valenzuela and Malabon, PAGASA said.

As for Ipo Dam, residents living in low-lying areas and near the banks of the Angat River, including areas in the towns of Norzagaray, Angat, San Rafael, Bustos, Baliuag, Pulilan, Plaridel and Hagonoy are advised to take precautionary measures and be alert for possible floodings.
