PUV drivers, conductors told to wear face masks to fight coronavirus spread

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 31) — All public utility vehicle drivers and conductors will soon be required to wear face masks while working amid the spread of novel coronavirus following the country’s first confirmed case.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board on Thursday issued a memorandum with guidelines on how to ensure safe transportation.

It ordered all PUV drivers and conductors to properly wear face masks at all times while on duty. All terminal operators were also told to provide face masks, as well as disinfectant or sanitizer dispensers for free use of passengers.

The board also reminded PUV drivers they are mandated to provide transport services to anyone regardless of their nationality.

“PUV drivers who will be found guilty of rejecting passengers shall undergo the due process. We urge the public to stay vigilant and report occurrences like these,” it said in a statement on Friday.
