Elusive Philippine Eagle seen in Mt. Apo forests

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 24) – In a rare sighting, a young Philippine eagle was spotted in the forests of Mt. Apo in southern Philippines.

Davao City-based Philippine Eagle Foundation shared the news in a post on Wednesday that it recently discovered a juvenile bird of prey about a year old at the Mount Apo Natural Park, thanks to the efforts of forest rangers.

The conservation group has been campaigning for over 20 years to save the birds from extinction.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature listed the monkey-eating eagles as “critically endangered” species, with only 400 pairs left in the wild, the foundation said.

IUCN defines “critically endangered” species as those that are “threatened with global extinction.”
