Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 10) – The Philippines expects a storm-free weekend, but parts of the country will still experience light rains due to two other weather systems.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) still outside the country, but it has low chances of becoming a storm.
In a briefing Friday, PAGASA Weather Specialist Meno Mendoza said the LPA was last spotted 1,930 kilometers east of Mindanao, and it might enter the Philippine territory by Sunday.
Official forecast as of 4 a.m. suggested that Mindanao and Eastern Visayas may have cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms due to easterlies while Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Aurora, and Quezon province can expect cloudy skies and light rains caused by the northeast monsoon.
Meanwhile, fair weather will prevail over Metro Manila in the next five days, according to the state weather bureau.
However, PAGASA said that partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated light rains are still possible in the National Capital Region and the rest of Luzon caused by the northeast monsoon. But they would not have significant impact over the area.
Localized thunderstorms would bring isolated rainshowers over the rest of Visayas, PAGASA added.
