
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 13) – Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena finished fourth in the ISTAF Berlin Continental Tour.
The 25-year-old Filipino pole vault sensation finished with 5.81 meters, after failing to cross the 5.91-meter mark in three tries.
Obiena aced the 5.41- and 5.56-meter clearance in one attempt and 5.71 meters in two tries.
The Berlin tournament finished with an all-American podium as Sam Kendricks beat Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Christopher Nilsen for the gold via count back rule, after they both hurdled the 5.91-meter mark.
KC Lightfoot edged Obiena for the bronze medal after the American cleared 5.81 meters in just one attempt.
A day before the Berlin meet, Obiena broke the Asian and national record after hurdling the 5.93-meter mark for a gold medal finish in the Golden Roof Challenge in Innsbruck, Austria.
