Alex Eala wins debut Wimbledon girls singles match

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 5) – Filipino tennis prodigy Alex Eala did easy work over her Argentinian opponent to win her debut Wimbledon girls singles match on Monday.

The 16-year-old Filipino tennis ace dominated Argentina’s Solana Sierra in two sets, 6-2, 6-4, in the match that lasted for an hour and four minutes.

The two female young tennis players split their first two games in the opening set, but Eala showed her experience in the third game where she swept Sierra after the Argentinian bet’s forehand unforced error in the final play.

Eala won the succeeding three games with two double faults and a forehand forced error from Sierra. The Argentinian won the seventh game, but Eala’s great first serve game helped the Filipino bet to clinch a set advantage.

The same game plan happened in the second set where Eala continued to force Sierra to commit errors in the finishing plays.

Sierra tried to get closer to Eala with two successive game wins, but the Filipino tennis sensation maintained her poise in scoring timely points off her Argentinian foe’s errors.

Sierra finished the match with 36 errors, double the output from Eala’s 18.

Eala, the tournament’s second seed, will face Spain’s Ane Mintegi Del Olmo in the second round.
