Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 3)— Former Defense Secretary Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro flew to Davao City on Thursday to meet with Mayor Sara Duterte, fueling speculations that they might run together in the 2022 polls.
Teodoro ran for president in 2010, but lost to Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
Former Camarines Sur Rep. Rolando Andaya Jr., who accompanied Teodoro, shared photos of them on the plane en route to Davao.
“On my way with my Vice President to meet my President. Done deal folks,” Andaya wrote on his Facebook page.
Teodoro and Duterte, however, have yet to issue statements on the matter.
Teodoro also received a COVID-19 vaccine during his visit, as shown in photos shared by Andaya.
On May 30, former senator and defeated vice presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. called on Mayor Duterte. The official announcement at the time was that Marcos, who was accompanied by sister Sen. Imee Marcos, went to Davao to personally greet Duterte on her then upcoming birthday, but there were also talks that Marcos was working on a possible tandem with Duterte for the 2022 election.
These developments also come amid speculations in President Rodrigo Duterte’s party, PDP-Laban, about a Duterte-Duterte ticket in next year’s election, with the father allegedly aiming to vie for the vice presidential post.
