Among Filipinos abroad, 85 new cases and six new recoveries were reported, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs. The case total is now 20,747 in 94 countries with 4,626 infections verified by the DOH, the DFA said. The survivor tally rose to 12,234 while the death toll stayed at 1,227. There are also 7,286 people still undergoing treatment.
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 26) — The country tallied 6,871 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, pushing the total to 1,391,911, the Department of Health said.
The DOH case bulletin counted 53,447 active or people currently sick, which is 3.8% of the case count. At least 89.4% of the active cases are experiencing mild symptoms, 5.7% have no symptoms, 2% have severe symptoms, 1.4% are in critical condition, and 1.44% are in moderate condition.
The death toll also climbed to 24,244 or 1.74% of the COVID-19 tally after 92 more people lost their lives to the disease. Meanwhile, 8,720 more patients got better, raising the number of recoveries to 1,314,220 or 94.4% of the case total.
The DOH said the total excludes data from three laboratories that failed to submit their reports on time. It added 98 survivors were reclassified – 45 into active cases and 53 into fatalities – and 13 duplicates were removed, including ten recoveries.
The three non-reporting laboratories contributed an average of 0.54% of samples tested and 0.65% of positive individuals in the last 14 days, the DOH noted.
The daily positivity rate or percentage of individuals who tested positive rose slightly to 11.9% based on 50,035 tests done on June 24. The rate will still be updated but it is far from the below 5% recommended by the World Health Organization. Experts have said high rates may mean high transmission and that more cases have yet to be detected.
