
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 2) — Tropical Storm Dante (international name: Choi-wan) has dumped heavy rains that caused flooding in a number of areas in the Visayas.
Heavy downpour pounded Cebu City early evening Tuesday, inundating several areas.
Among those affected areas in the city were P. Del Rosario Street, Sikatuna Street, the road below the Mambaling Flyover, Bayanihan in Quiot Pardo, Kinasangan Road, Nasipit Road in Talamban, portions of Lorega San Miguel, and the Ayala Access Road in Hipodromo. Knee-deep floodwaters were also observed in Barangay T. Padilla.
Flooding was also reported in Cebu province’s Consolacion town.
Meanwhile, 13 villages in Maasin City, Southern Leyte were hit by flooding, affecting 600 families, Mayor Nacional Mercado said.
Houses in a number of villages were submerged in floodwater. Some of the affected families are now staying in evacuation centers, the Maasin mayor said.
Some villages in the towns of Matalom, Bato, and Hilongos in Leyte province were also flooded, Philippine National Police Eastern Visayas reported. At least 17 families in Matalom municipality were evacuated, it added.
Landslide
In Dalaguete town in Cebu province, a landslide rendered a portion of the Dalaguete-Mantalongon-Badian road impassable, the Department of Public Works and Highways Central Visayas reported. There are no reported casualties.
Stranded in ports
As of 12 a.m., 3,360 passengers, were stranded in 63 ports nationwide, the Philippine Coast Guard said.
Also stranded are 1,078 rolling cargoes, 71 vessels, and three motorbancas, the PCG added.
