
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 31) – Young Filipino BMX champion Patrick Coo missed out a Tokyo Olympics trip in the 2021 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup held at Bogota, Colombia over the weekend.
In the tournament’s Round 3 on May 29, the 19-year-old Coo finished 45th out 62 riders in the overall rankings. He finished sixth out of eight riders in the first round with a time of 36.191 seconds.
Coo failed to secure a slot in the second round after placing third in his heat in the last chance races, clocking in 35.533 seconds. Only the top two riders per heat progressed in the next round.
The 2019 Asian juniors BMX champion duplicated his performance in his last two races on Round 4 the following day. He finished in 47th place in the overall standings.
He again settled for a sixth place finish in his heat in the first round after recording a time of 36.355 seconds.
He also placed third in his heat in the last chance race with a time of 36.794 seconds, missing out anew a top two finish where he could have advanced in the second round.
Coo was guided by coaches Ednalyn Hualda and Frederick Farr in his campaign in the Olympic qualifiers.
