Crising weakens into tropical depression

In its 11 p.m. update, PAGASA said Crising is now packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour, and gustiness of up to 90 kph. It is still moving west at 20 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 has been lifted, but Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over the following areas in Visayas and Mindanao:

The southeastern portion of Negros Oriental, Siquijor, the southern portion of Surigao del Sur, the central and southern portions of Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao City, the northern portion of Cotabato, the northern portion of Maguindanao, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Misamis Occidental, Bukidnon, the central and western portions of Misamis Oriental , the northeastern portion of Zamboanga del Sur, and the northeastern portion of Zamboanga del Norte.

These areas may expect winds of up to 60 kph or intermittent rains within 36 hours.

Moderate to heavy rains are expected in Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao City, Cotabato, Maguindanao, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Misamis Occidental, Zamboanga del Sur, and the northern portion of Zamboanga del Norte until Friday.

Flooding and rain-induced landslides are also possible in affected areas, especially those considered at high risk, the bureau said.

Crising is forecast to move west northwest and may further weaken as it traverses the Mindanao landmass, then emerge over the Sulu Sea Friday evening. It will then weaken into a remnant low on Saturday prior or during its landfall in Palawan. Crising could dissipate shortly after passing over Palawan, PAGASA said. However, this may happen earlier while the storm crosses Mindanao, it added.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 13) — Tropical Storm Crising has weakened into a tropical depression after making landfall in the vicinity of Baganga in Davao Oriental, the state weather bureau reported.
