Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 10) – High-scoring guard Terrence Fortea brings his talents to Diliman after committing to play for the University of the Philippines, team head coach Bo Perasol confirmed on Monday to CNN Philippines.
“It makes sense for Terrence to want to play alongside his former teammates. We are all hoping that they could carry with them the championship spirit that they have,” said Perasol.
Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla, one of the Maroons’ main backers, also revealed the development on Monday in a podcast interview.
The 6-foot-1 Fortea is the third Nazareth School of National University Bullpup to take his act to UP in the past year after point guard Gerry Abadiano and big man Carl Tamayo.
Fortea averaged 15.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game in UAAP Season 82, where the Bullpups swept the season and clinched their eighth league title.
Fortea also represented the country in various international tournaments, such as the 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup and the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup.
He will join the loaded Maroons backcourt composed of Ricci Rivero, CJ Cansino, and Joel Cagulangan.
“You can see that the core of the team going to the next 3 to 5 years will be really, really solid,” said Remulla.
The Fighting Maroons finished third in UAAP Season 82.
