Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 16) – Those working in public and private higher education institutions (HEIs) have been elevated to the A4 category of the national government’s COVID-19 vaccination priority list, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) said on Thursday.
CHED lobbied for the HEIs frontliners inclusion in the list to make sure they can receive student requirements, computer grades, process clearances, and issue transcripts of records, diplomas and other credentials this school year.
“If we don’t vaccinate our education frontliners, we run the risk of students not being able to enroll next school year or having graduates who can’t take their licensure examinations or are unable to look for employment because of missing credentials,” said CHED chairman Prospero De Vera III.
Essential economic workers are listed under the vaccination program’s A4 priority group, who will be inoculated after senior citizens and persons with co-morbidities.

Vaccinations in the country started in March this year, with the government targeting to vaccinate up to 70 million individuals to achieve herd immunity against COVID-19.
