761 more overseas Filipinos contract COVID-19, a record-high for the year — DFA

The latest number raised the COVID-19 tally among overseas Filipinos to 15,850. The agency usually records double digit figures of new cases daily, but it attributed the spike to a rise in infections in an unnamed country in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, recoveries climbed by 10 to 9,536, while two new fatalities were added to the death toll, which now stands at 1,040.

These bring the number of active cases to 5,274. To date, the DFA has recorded COVID-19 cases among Filipinos in 87 countries and territories.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 8) — New COVID-19 cases among Filipinos living abroad surged to 761 on Monday, a record-single day spike in that sector this year, the Department of Foreign Affairs reported.
