
Siquijor – classes, work in public and private offices (until further notice)
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 16) — More local government units in the Visayas and Mindanao have declared suspension of classes and work to prepare for the onslaught of Typhoon Odette.
In Western Visayas, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas announced on Thursday that classes at all levels are suspended until Friday. He said city hall will have a skeleton workforce, except for some offices “to be identified later due to the present situation of the typhoon.”
These LGUs have also announced suspensions:
Central Visayas
Bohol — classes in public and private schools, work in public and private offices (until Dec. 17)
Eastern Visayas
Maripipi, Biliran — classes and work
Samar — classes and work
Arteche, Samar — classes in public and private schools, work in government offices
Giporlos, Samar — classes and work (until Dec. 17)
Guiuan, Samar — classes in public and private schools, work in public and private offices (until Dec. 17)
Salcedo, Samar — classes and work
Taft, Samar — classes and work
Southern Leyte — classes and work
Ormoc City, Leyte — classes in public and private schools, work in public and private offices (until Dec. 17)
In Tacloban City in Leyte, only work in government offices was suspended.
Odette was last seen 265 km East of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte, packing winds of 165 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 205 kph, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Further intensification is expected of the typhoon, the weather bureau said, ahead of its expected landfall in the vicinity of Dinagat Islands, Siargao-Bucas Grande Islands, or the northern portion of Surigao del Sur on Thursday noon or early afternoon.
