Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 7) — Industries and activities permitted under Alert Level 1 may now operate at full capacity, Malacañang announced Tuesday.
Acting presidential spokesperson Martin Andanar confirmed the decision of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) in a media briefing.
However, he stressed that individuals must present proof of full COVID-19 vaccination when attending mass gatherings or entering indoor establishments in areas under the most relaxed alert level.
Most parts of the country, including Metro Manila, are currently under Alert Level 1 until June 15.
The announcement comes amid recommendations to ease the Philippines out of its state of calamity status due to the health crisis. However, the Department of Health has rejected the idea, saying the country must take “baby steps” given its current situation.
The capital region has experienced a slight uptick in COVID-19 cases, as flagged by the agency and the independent OCTA Research group.
The DOH has confirmed the detection of three subvariants of the more transmissible Omicron variant in the past few weeks – the BA 2.12.1, BA.4, and BA.5.
