Philadelphia offers $20K reward for information on Filipino lawyer’s killing

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 22)— The Philadelphia government is offering a $20,000 reward for information that would lead to the arrest of the gunman behind the killing of visiting Filipino lawyer John Albert Laylo.

This was confirmed on Wednesday by the Philippine Consulate General in New York, which earlier met with the city’s mayor Jim Kenney and police officials.

“The Consulate was told a $20,000 reward is being offered for information that would lead to the arrest of the shooter. The Consulate later met with [Laylo’s mother] to tell her about the outcome of the discussions with Mayor Kenney,” Consul General Elmer Cato said in a statement.

During their meeting, Cato said Kenney expressed his condolences to Laylo’s family and vowed that “justice will be served” on the case.

The mayor also apologized for what he labeled as a “terrible tragedy.”

Laylo and his mother — who were vacationing in the US — were on the way to the airport when at least six shots were fired at the Uber car they were in, officials reported on Sunday.

Cato said police are currently looking into surveillance videos around the area, but noted that initial assessment pointed to a possible case of “mistaken identity.”

The repatriation of Laylo’s remains is scheduled next Tuesday, Cato said.
