Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 21) — The Department of Transportation and the San Miguel Corporation have signed the Supplemental Toll Operations Agreement (STOA) and Annexes for a toll road that aims to reduce traffic congestion in South Luzon Expressway and other major thoroughfares in Metro Manila.
The signing for the Southern Access Link Expressway (SALEX) project will pave the way for the construction of its four sections, the DOTr said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
“The segments of the project include the C3-R10 Extension, Shoreline Expressway, Quirino Extension, and Buendia (Gil Puyat Avenue) Extension,” it said.
Apart from reducing traffic congestion, the expressway also aims to contribute to the economic development of Metro Manila and Central Luzon, as well as provide a direct access to the New Manila International Airport or the Bulacan Airport, the Transport Department said.
The department said the C3-R10 Extension will connect the Skyway Stage 3 at Sgt. Rivera in Quezon City to the proposed Shoreline Expressway at R-10.
Meanwhile, the Shoreline Expressway starts from Ayala Bridge passing along Ayala Boulevard, the streets of San Marcelino, Padre Faura, A. Mabini, and Pedro Gil, and Roxas Boulevard.
The Quirino Extension, on the other hand, will connect Skyway Stage 3 at the Quirino Interchange to the proposed Shoreline Expressway and in Roxas Boulevard through an elevated structure.
The final extension then intends to connect Ninoy Aquino International Airport Expressway (NAIAX) to the Gil Puyat Avenue and Roxas Boulevard intersection, the Skyway Stage 3, and EDSA.
Leading the signing were Transport Secretary Art Tugade and San Miguel Corporation President and CEO Ramon Ang.
