BOC seizes ₱78M worth of counterfeit items, other products in Bulacan

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 20) — The Bureau of Customs, in cooperation with the National Bureau of Investigation-National Capital Region, seized ₱78 million worth of counterfeit items and other products in Bulacan.

The BOC operated through its Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service-Intellectual Property Rights Division.

In a statement on Friday, the bureau said the fake items were discovered last May 2 in warehouses located at Fochun Industrial Compound in Balagtas, Bulacan by personnel from the CIIS-IPRD, BOC-Port of Manila (POM), NBI-NCR, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

These were seized after their owners failed to comply with the Trade department’s safety standards, the BOC said.

Authorities already conducted initial inventory of items bearing various brands like Adidas, Nike, Jordan, Gucci, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Honda.

A shipment container was also found at the said location. Items in the cargo were declared as steel channel but were later found to be Aluminum Profiles.

“The representatives of the warehouses were informed by the implementing team to provide importation documents and other pertinent permits covering all goods found there. Further investigation is also underway for other possible violations of the Republic Act (R.A.) 4653, Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines (R.A. 8293), Consumer Act of the Philippines (R.A. 7394), and the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (R.A. 10863),” the bureau said.
