Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 2) — Malacañang announced that Tuesday, May 3, will be a holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr, the end of the holy month of Ramadan which will take place on Monday.
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea made the announcement on Sunday, following the statement of Bangsamoro Mufti Abuhuraira Udasan who confirmed that the crescent moon has been sighted.
The country celebrates the holiday under Republic Act 9177 of 2002, but the date is not fixed as the Muslim calendar is based on the different phases of the moon.
Eid’l Fitr marks the end of fasting of the month of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal, the 10th month of Muslim calendar.
