Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 26) – Ateneo De Manila University Blue Eagles asserted their dominance in UAAP Season 84 as they stretched their clean slate to 12 games after decimating the hapless Adamson University Soaring Falcons, 91-57, on Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The win is also Ateneo’s 38th straight since Season 81 in 2018.
Ange Kouame tallied 18 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three steals in an all-around game for the Blue Eagles. Matthew Daves also contributed 18 markers as he missed only two out of his 10 field goal attempts.
After tallying a close lead in the first quarter, the Blue Eagles displayed their shooting prowess and their towering defense that limited the Falcons to only seven points in the second period.
Ateneo’s lead further swelled in the second half as all players of coach Tab Baldwin did their part in stopping the four-game winning streak of their opponents from San Marcelino.
The Blue Eagles were unstoppable offensively after getting a wide lead in points off turnovers (28-4), second chance points (15-6), steals (15-5), and bench points (50-22).
The Falcons turned the ball over 24 times, compared to the seven turnovers only for the Katipunan-based cagers.
Prolific scorer Jerom Lastimosa was the sole standout for Adamson with 16 points, as the Falcons dropped to fifth place in the team standings with a 5-7 record.
The defending champions will shoot for their 13th straight win of the season against Far Eastern University on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. while Adamson looks to return to their winning ways against De La Salle University at the 12:30 p.m. game.
