
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 24) – The death toll due to Tropical Storm Agaton has climbed to 212, according to the latest figures released by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Sunday.
The NDRRMC reported 34 new fatalities in its count.
Out of the total deaths due to the tropical storm, 111 have been confirmed while the rest are still being validated by the agency.
Meanwhile, 21 additional missing individuals were recorded by the NDRRMC, increasing the total to 132.
Eight persons were reported injured due to Agaton’s onslaught from April 9 to 12 in Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Western Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Caraga, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
The disaster response agency said more than 650,000 families or 2.2 million people were affected by Agaton, while around 77,000 persons lost their homes and remain displaced.
The tropical storm also left an estimated ₱1.3 billion damage in agriculture and destroyed infrastructure worth ₱6.95 million.
Agaton was the first storm to enter the country in 2022.
