Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 4) – Golden State Warriors star guard Steph Curry continues to have a huge following among Filipino hoop fans as he topped the most popular NBA jersey in the country.
The National Basketball Association announced the result based on sales from the NBA Store Philippines website during the first half of the 2021-22 season, from Oct. 20, 2021 to Jan. 30, 2022.
Curry is averaging 25.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game to lead the Warriors’ resurgence, as they hold the second best record in the league with 43-20.
Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James ranked second while Dallas Mavericks hotshot Luka Doncic is at third place – his highest ranking so far in the local NBA jersey sales list.
Rising Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant and Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
Completing the top 10 are Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker, Brookyln Nets duo Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, Lakers big man Anthony Davis, and Miami Heat stalwart Jimmy Butler.
Doncic, Booker, and Davis were included in the top 10 Philippine NBA jersey sales for the first time.
Meanwhile, the Lakers maintained its stature as the most popular NBA team in the country after topping the team merchandise sales locally.
The Warriors are in second place, followed by the Nets, Mavericks, and Bucks.
The 17-time NBA champions are still popular with Filipinos despite lagging in ninth place at the Western Conference standings with a 27-35 slate.
