According to its updated report, there were also four civilians injured.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 29) — Six people died after a fire razed a residential area along Arlegui Street in Quiapo, Manila Thursday morning, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said.

The BFP said five of the fatalities were members of a family, including two 12-year-olds and a 7-year-old.

Authorities said the fire was raised to the third alarm at 2:50 a.m. It was under control at 4:15 a.m, and fire out was declared at 8:10 a.m.

In a 5:12 am report, an 80-year-old male, a 73-year-old female, and a five-year-old boy were said to be injured.

The BFP said the flames hit roughly 50 structures, affecting around 1,200 people or close to 500 families. They will be evacuated to a nearby barangay, authorities said.

Initial reports gathered by CNN Philippines said most of the structures that caught fire were made of light materials. The barangay hall and the daycare center were also hit by the blaze.

The fire’s origin is still unknown.
