Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 28) — The Office of the Ombudsman has filed more cases in the first three quarters of 2022 compared to its total number last year.
Sandiganbayan records show it received 209 cases from the Ombudsman as of September, which is already ahead of the 163 total cases filed in 2021.
Ombudsman Samuel Martires earlier said the COVID-19 pandemic had slowed down the resolution and filing of cases.
Most of the indictments for this year involve malversation, graft, and civil cases.
Meanwhile, there are over 2,500 cases pending before the seven divisions of the Sandiganbayan.
It resolved or disposed of almost 600 cases from January to September this year.
Since the pandemic struck, the anti-graft court only resumed full in-court hearings earlier this year.
