Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 3) — Around 60% of Filipinos favor the recently signed SIM Card Registration Act while 66% believe it could help fight crimes carried out through mobile phones, a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey reported on Thursday.
The survey also showed that 17% of respondents disapproved of the new law, while 23% were undecided.
Of the 60%, 32% said they strongly approve while 29% said they somewhat approve of the measure.
The findings also revealed that 48% of respondents believe SIM card vendors can be trusted to keep customers’ private information secure.
The non-commissioned face-to-face survey was conducted from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2 and interviewed 1,500 adults nationwide.
The SIM Card Registration Act, or Republic Act No. 11934, was the first bill that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. signed into law.
It has a sampling error margin of ±3% for national percentages and ±6% for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
