Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 20) — The government is ready to assist and repatriate Filipinos based in Ukraine following Russia’s declaration of martial law in its “annexed” regions, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday.

In a statement, the DFA said it is continuously monitoring the situation of Philippine nationals in the area.

“The Department, the Embassy, and the Honorary Consulate General stand ready to repatriate our kababayans should they request assistance for immediate return to the country,” it noted.

According to the DFA, there are still 25 Filipinos staying in Ukraine, mostly in the capital Kyiv.

The agency added there are currently no Filipinos in the regions where martial law was declared, which are Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Luhansk.

Around 400 Filipinos were flown back to the Philippines during the first half of the year when the Russia-Ukraine crisis first broke out, DFA data showed.
