Metro Manila, Philippines – Malacañang suspended classes at all levels in Luzon and Visayas until Tuesday, Nov. 11, due to Super Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-wong).
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed the memorandum circular on Sunday, Nov. 9, as authorities warned that the super typhoon may affect over 50 provinces in the country.
The class suspension order covered National Capital Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Negros Island Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and Eastern Visayas.
Meanwhile, Malacañang also suspended work in government offices in NCR and CAR, as well as Regions I to V and VIII.
“Agencies responsible for basic, vital and health services, preparedness, and response duties must continue to remain operational,” the Palace said.
Government agencies can also implement alternate work arrangements to ensure continuity of essential government functions.
Local chief executives in other regions may also issue their own suspension of classes and work in government offices.
Private firms have the discretion to suspend work.
“Uwan” posed threatening weather conditions in Bicol region on Sunday ahead of its possible landfall in Aurora on Sunday evening or Monday.
The super typhoon hit the country days after Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi), which had killed at least 224 individuals in Visayas.
