Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 4) — Meta’s Facebook Messenger is now trending on social media after netizens complained that the application had gone awry, reportedly resulting in lost media files.
Messenger users on Thursday reported that they could no longer access photos, videos, files, and links previously shared with their friends or contacts on the app.
As a result, the topic “Facebook Messenger” trended on Twitter, garnering about 4,360 tweets as of this writing, though the number is still increasing.
CNN Philippines asked netizens on Facebook and Twitter for their experience with the Messenger mishap and most users responded that they too could not access the media files shared with friends.

However, some users reported that the application was working normally for their devices.
Twitter user @VillameroAngela said “Mine is working fine. No lost files received.”
“I can’t na sa mobile app. Sa desktop meron pa,” Marlon Ramirez said on Facebook.

Other netizens suggested that “backreading” or manually scrolling through conversations would allow access to previous files.
“They are all still there. Just not in the folder, need to scroll up in the convo,” Kathy Labandelo commented on Facebook.
“Wala na sakin but i can still see it pag nagback read ako,” Facebook user Rodesa Ferl said.

Meta has yet to issue a statement on the matter and it appears that the problem has not yet been resolved for some users.
