Metro Manila, Philippines – Dakota Johnson takes on the role of a struggling writer drawn into the disturbing secrets of a bestselling author’s family in the upcoming psychological thriller “Verity.”
Based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, the film follows Lowen Ashleigh, played by Johnson, who is hired to ghostwrite the remaining books of celebrated author Verity Crawford, portrayed by Anne Hathaway.
Lowen moves into the Crawford family home to go through Verity’s notes and unfinished manuscripts as the author remains unresponsive following an accident.
There, she lives with Verity’s husband Jeremy, played by Josh Hartnett, and their son Crew, portrayed by Brady Wagner.
But as Lowen searches through Verity’s work, she discovers an unfinished manuscript containing disturbing revelations about the author and her family.
Her discovery begins to blur the lines between truth and fiction as Lowen grows closer to Jeremy and questions what really happened inside the Crawford household.
Johnson said the film allowed her to explore a character whose understanding of the people around her constantly changes.
“Verity” is adapted from Hoover’s 2018 novel, which marked a darker turn from the romance stories for which the author is widely known.
The psychological thriller brings together Johnson, Hathaway and Hartnett in a story centered on obsession, deception and the secrets hidden within a marriage.
