Metro Manila, Philippines – The Department of Justice has commanded Senator Robin Padilla to make a statement over a complaint for “obstruction of apprehension and prosecution of criminal offenders” in connection with his alleged role in aiding Senator Bato dela Rosa’s exit from the Senate compound.
It summoned Padilla to appear before a panel of prosecutors on Sept. 25 and Oct. 9.
The senator posted on Facebook: “A subpoena has arrived.”
The complaint stemmed from Dela Rosa’s sudden departure from the Senate compound – where he sought protective custody – in the early hours of May 14, amid efforts to enforce an International Criminal Court arrest warrant over his participation in the Duterte administration’s drug war.
Padilla previously denied helping his colleague escape, saying the former national police chief only asked to hitch a ride with him out of the Senate building on May 14.
