89 areas under state of calamity – NDRRMC

Metro Manila, Philippines – At least 89 areas are under a state of calamity from the impact of heavy rains and flooding as of Saturday, Aug. 22.

The areas include Dagupan in Pangasinan, Benguet, Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Zambales, Rizal, Cavite and Batangas, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

Separately, Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro, is also under a state of calamity, although it was not included in the 89 reported areas.

The calamity affected 2.1 million families or 7.4 million people 

Twenty nine people were killed, 19 injured, while three are missing. 

Infrastructure damage was estimated at ₱4.7 billion, while agricultural losses reached ₱1.7 billion.
