‘Insidious: Out of the Further’ posts record ₱51.7M horror opening in PH

“Insidious: Out of the Further” takes over the box office with a record-breaking 51.7-M PHP, the biggest horror opening day of all time in PH (Columbia Pictures)

Metro Manila, Philippines –  ‘Insidious: Out of the Further’ scared up ₱51.7 million at the Philippine box office on its first day, setting a new opening-day record for a horror film in the country, according to distributor Columbia Pictures.

The latest installment in the Insidious franchise earned ₱51,682,703 on opening day as moviegoers packed cinemas, including sold-out midnight screenings.

The haul surpassed the previous record set by Insidious: The Red Door in 2023. It also marked the biggest opening day for any film in the Insidious franchise in the Philippines.

SM North EDSA recorded the highest opening-day gross at ₱1.82 million, followed by SM Megamall with ₱1.35 million and SM Fairview with ₱1.31 million. SM Clark and SM Mall of Asia rounded out the top five with ₱1.10 million and ₱1.03 million, respectively.

The strong Philippine opening comes as the supernatural horror franchise returns for its sixth installment. The Insidious films have collectively earned more than $740 million worldwide.

A new family enters ‘The Further’

Unlike earlier installments centered on the Lambert family, ‘Out of the Further’ introduces a new family and expands the supernatural world at the heart of the franchise.

Amelia Eve plays Gemma, a young mother raising her daughter in her childhood home. Gemma discovers she has the ability to enter The Further, the franchise’s purgatorial realm inhabited by lost souls.

Her ability carries a dangerous twist: she can bring entities from The Further into the real world.

Lin Shaye returns as psychic medium Elise Rainier, one of the franchise’s longest-running characters. Brandon Perea also stars in the film.

Jacob Chase, known for Come Play, wrote and directed the latest installment. The story is credited to Chase and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick.

Horror filmmakers James Wan and Leigh Whannell, who helped launch Insidious in 2010, return as producers alongside Jason Blum and Oren Peli.
