Metro Manila, Philippines – Four people were killed and six are missing from a landslide that buried three homes in Barangay Guisad Surong, Baguio City on Sunday, Aug. 9, the city public information office reported.
As of Monday, Aug. 10, rescuers saved three people from the rubble, including a 77-year-old pastor.
The four deaths were:
+a nine-year-old male student
+a nine-year-old female student
+a 17-year-old female student
+a 56-year-old male
Authorities are still looking for six others, including a three-year-old and an eight-year-old.
In a Monday interview, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong said around 150 rescuers are clearing the site on a rotational basis.
The landslide area remains dangerous because of loose soil and steep hillside. Authorities are bringing in more equipment to clear a large slab of rock.
Magalong said the city has seen 14 landslides so far due to nonstop rains.
