Dwight Ramos, AJ Edu to miss Gilas title defense bid in Asian Games

Metro Manila, Philippines – Dwight Ramos and AJ Edu will not be suiting up for Gilas Pilipinas in its title defense bid in the 20th Asian Games happening in Japan.

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas executive director Erika Dy said Ramos and Edu will be seeing action for their respective teams Levanga Hokkaido and Gunma Crane Thunders in the B.League Manila Games, which will overlap with the Asian Games schedule.

Since the Asian Games is not a FIBA-sanctioned tournament, club teams are not obligated to release their players.

“I think it’s safe to say that Dwight and AJ (are not playing for Gilas) because they are playing in the Manila B.League Games on September 9 and 10. Conflict na yan agad sa schedule ng Asian Games kaya hindi sila makakasama,” Dy said during the Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum on Tuesday, July 28.

The Philippines will be aiming to capture back-to-back titles in the men’s basketball at the Asian Games, which runs from September 10 to 20.

Gilas has yet to announce its final lineup for the Asian Games.
