Metro Manila, Philippines – Jimmy Alapag is making a comeback in the PBA as the new NLEX Road Warriors head coach.
The team made the announcement on its social media pages on Monday, June 29.
“As we prepare for the upcoming conference, the NLEX management believes this is the right time to introduce renewed leadership while preserving the continuity and identity that the team has built,” the Road Warriors said in a statement.
The 48-year-old Alapag, a six-time PBA champion with the TNT franchise, will bring in a wealth of NBA coaching experience as player development coach for the Sacramento Kings for nearly three years.
Prior to his stint with the Kings, he was an assistant coach for the Stockton Kings in the G-League for two seasons.
Alapag played an integral role for the Gilas Pilipinas squad that clinched a silver medal in the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship held in Manila and the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain.
NLEX finished as the top seed in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup but lost twice to the eighth seed TNT Tropang 5G in the quarterfinals.
