Super Typhoon Francisco may intensify until Tuesday afternoon — PAGASA

Metro Manila, Philippines — Super Typhoon Francisco may continue to intensify or retain its strength until Tuesday afternoon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Francisco rapidly intensified into a super typhoon on Monday night.

In its 5:00 AM severe weather bulletin on Tuesday, June 23, the state weather bureau said that while the cyclone is expected to remain far from the Philippine landmass, its outer bands—coupled with the southwest monsoon—may bring strong to gale-force gusts over parts of the country.

Based on the current track and intensity forecast, Francisco is projected to weaken into a typhoon by early Wednesday morning before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday.

The following areas remain under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1:

  • Batanes
  • The northeastern portion of Cagayan (Gonzaga and Santa Ana)
  • The eastern portion of the Babuyan Islands

Meanwhile, PAGASA noted that it is also monitoring a separate tropical depression currently outside of PAR.
