Metro Manila, Philippines – Former Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano has taken his oath as the new general manager of state-run People’s Television Network, replacing Maria Lourdes “Malou” Choa-Fagar.
Presidential Communications Office Acting Secretary Dave Gomez administered Cayetano’s oath on Thursday, June 4, Palace press officer Claire Castro announced during a press briefing.
“I am deeply honored and humbled by the trust the President has placed in me to lead PTV-4, the People’s Television Network,” Cayetano said in a statement following his appointment.
“As a nationwide broadcast network and the government’s channel, PTV-4 carries a special responsibility: to inform and to bring the work of government closer to every Filipino, making it easier to reach and access,” he added.
Cayetano said transparency is essential to good governance and underscored the role of the network’s news and public affairs programs.
“We believe that when information is shared openly, it builds transparency. Transparency is the foundation of good governance. This is where our news and public affairs will play its most important role,” he said.
The former mayor also said PTV should help promote Filipino culture and identity.
“Entertainment and culture are a vital part of Filipino life, and PTV-4 should help lead in celebrating our stories, our places, our music, our talents, and our identity as a people,” he said.
Castro said Cayetano is expected to help strengthen government communications and support the PCO’s mandate of delivering timely, accurate and relevant information to the public.
Cayetano said he plans to expand the network’s reach across free television, digital broadcast and social media platforms while strengthening its international, regional and local presence.
Cayetano is the younger brother of Senate siblings Alan Peter and Pia.
