Metro Manila, Philippines – Vietnamese President Tô Lâm will undertake a two-day state visit to the Philippines on May 31 to June 1, marking the first state visit by a Vietnamese leader to Manila, Malacañang said.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is expected to welcome his counterpart as both sides prepare to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Philippine-Vietnam diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership.

The Palace described the visit as a reflection of the “depth and strength” of bilateral ties between Manila and Hanoi.

During the bilateral meeting, Marcos and Tô Lâm are expected to discuss expanding cooperation in trade and investment, food security, defense, maritime affairs, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

The two leaders are also expected to tackle regional and geopolitical issues amid continuing tensions in the South China Sea. Manila and Hanoi have overlapping claims in the disputed water.

Vietnam remains the Philippines’ only strategic partner in Southeast Asia.

Malacañang also announced that the Philippines is set to open a Philippine Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City by mid-2026 as part of efforts to expand Manila’s diplomatic presence and services in Vietnam.
