Japan, PH eye expanded agricultural cooperation

Metro Manila, Philippines – Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya met with Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. on May 4 to discuss ongoing and future cooperation between Japan and the Philippines in the agriculture sector.

During the meeting, Ambassador Endo reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting the development of Philippine agriculture, while both sides exchanged views on strengthening bilateral ties.

Discussions focused on expanding existing collaboration frameworks, promoting sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural practices, and improving market access and agricultural trade between the two countries.

The talks also covered the Philippines’ participation in Green Expo 2027 in Yokohama, Japan, where the country is expected to showcase initiatives in sustainable agriculture, as well as its horticulture industry and agricultural heritage.

Laurel expressed appreciation to the Japanese government for its continued support and partnership in agriculture-related initiatives.

He also reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to deepening agricultural ties with Japan and advancing shared goals in sustainable agriculture.
