Metro Manila, Philippines – The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons have added another weapon to their arsenal for their bid to reclaim the UAAP men’s basketball title.
NCAA Season 101 juniors basketball Most Valuable Player and back-to-back Defensive Player of the Year Sean Franco will be joining the Fighting Maroons in Season 89 later this year, the school announced on Thursday, March 5.
Franco will bolster the UP core of Rey Remogat, Jacob Bayla, Gani Stevens, Francis Nnoruka alongside transferees in former UAAP Rookie of the Year Veejay Pre and former NCAA Finals Most Valuable Player James Payosing.
In his last stint with the Arellano Braves, the 6-foot-2 Cagayan de Oro standout averaged 16.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists as he carried his team to the finals where they fell to eventual NCAA juniors champions Letran Squires.
The Fighting Maroons will be aiming to bring the UAAP men’s seniors basketball crown back to Diliman after their fifth straight finals appearance, highlighted by two championships in Seasons 84 and 87.
