Metro Manila, Philippines – Alex Eala will begin her maiden campaign in the prestigious Indian Wells Open against Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine in the Round of 64 on Saturday, March 7.
The Indian Wells Open is the best-attended tennis tournament outside the four grand slams (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open). It is based in California, USA.
The 20-year-old Eala, currently ranked No. 32 in the world, received a first-round bye in her third straight WTA 1000 tournament this year.
Meanwhile, the world No. 52 Yastremska booked her spot in the second round after taking down Zhang Shuai of China, 6-3, 6-2, to set up a duel with the Filipina tennis ace.
It will not be the first meeting between the two. Eala dominated Yastremska, 6-1, 6-2, in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Eastbourne Open, a WTA 250 event in Great Britain.
Eala will also see action in the women’s doubles as she partners with world No. 18 Iva Jovic of the United States. They will face Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko and American Hailey Baptiste in the Round of 32 on March 7.
