Manila, Philippines – Military troops and reservists have been sent to Mindanao in the wake of a strong tremor off the coast of Davao Oriental that triggered tsunami warnings.
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Gen. Romeo Brawner, Jr. said the deployment follows a presidential order to augment humanitarian and disaster response in the region.
“Right away, nagdeploy na po ang ating mga tropa. First of all, they are ready to do rescue and retrieval operations,” he told reporters at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.
