“De Brito resigns as Akari head coach \n”

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 14) — Brazilian head coach Jorge Souza de Brito is leaving the Akari Chargers, the club team announced Thursday.

It said De Brito’s resignation will be effective Dec. 15, but did not give the reason behind the 1992 Olympic gold medalist’s exit.

“Akari management has accepted Coach Jorge’s resignation and offers our sincerest appreciation, thanking him for his time and service during the four conferences he has served as the head tactician of this young, promising team,\” said Akari Chargers in a statement.

De Brito has served as the club team’s chief tactician since its debut in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference in 2022.

In his last stint as Chargers’ head coach, the team ended at seventh place – it’s best finish to date in any PVL conferences – in the second All Filipino Conference this year.

De Brito’s replacement has not yet been announced.

“More announcements will follow soon regarding the new direction the Akari Chargers will take moving forward,\” the club team added.
