Ejercito reiterates call to amend PhilHealth contribution hike

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 13) — With just a few days left before the scheduled increase in PhilHealth contributions, Senator JV Ejercito said he still hopes it will be amended through his bill that seeks to lower the premium rate hike.

“I am hoping that we’ll be able to pass these amendments so that the premium rate hikes will be adjusted accordingly,” Ejercito told CNN Philippines’ The Source on Wednesday.

The senator said the adjustment will give the public more time to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

PhilHealth is expected to implement the premium rate increase to 5% in January 2024 as stated under the Universe Health Care Act.

Ejercito earlier filed Senate Bill 160 that seeks to amend the law. It is still pending at the committee level.

He proposes to lower the premium rate in 2024 to 4% instead of 5%. He also wants the income ceiling adjusted to ₱10,000 to ₱40,000 from ₱10,000 to ₱100,000.
