Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 12) — No flights will be affected during a scheduled three-hour power interruption at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal beginning late Tuesday night for maintenance works, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) assured passengers.
“We apologize and ask for understanding from our passengers. Some may notice deficiencies, such as in lighting and other facilities. None of them are critical, but nevertheless, of course, we ask for their support. We are doing this to enhance our facilities at NAIA,” said MIAA Officer-in-Charge Bryan Co.
According to MIAA, its seventh installment upgrade, which is also the last one, will start on Dec, 12 at 11 p.m. and is expected to be finished on Dec. 13 at 2 a.m. It noted that power interruptions will occur for three hours affecting the terminal’s North Concourse area, where Cebu Pacific Air’s domestic flights are being served.
The deficiencies in facilities will mainly be electrical lighting in terminals and other facilities.
“Even when we mention that lighting will be affected, we make sure that at least 50% of the lights are functional and all critical systems are working so that we can ensure that no flights are affected in terms of possible cancellations or delays,” Co said.
The MIAA said they will load generators to prioritize NAIA functions such as \”baggage handling systems, check-in counters, passenger boarding bridges, air conditioning, and security protocols. However, lighting will be limited during these hours\” to ensure flight operations.
