Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 2) — The Far Eastern University (FEU) Cheering Squad won first place in the UAAP Season 86 Cheerdance Competition on Saturday, dethroning the National University (NU) Pep Squad.
The Morayta-based cheerleaders garnered 702.5 points after a smooth and fun choreography inspired by the popular video game Super Mario.
This is FEU’s fourth cheerdance crown, winning the last one in Season 84 in May 2022.
“Praise God for this victory. All praise goes to Him,\” said FEU Cheering Squad head coach Randell San Gregorio in a post-competition interview.
\”Stay dedicated. Never stop learning…There is always something to learn,” he added.
Aside from the title, FEU also won all the special awards from the sponsors.
Meanwhile, a homage to the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley was not enough for NU to get back-to-back victories.
The seven-time champion settled for second place with 697 points.
The University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe replicated its third-place finish from last season after dancing to the music of K-pop superstars Blackpink, which earned them 684 points.
The Adamson University finished fourth, while the University of the Philippines improved to fifth place.
Host school University of the East, on the other hand, dropped to sixth.
The De La Salle University and the Ateneo de Manila University remained at seventh and eighth place, respectively.
